Something fishy going on in Scotland
We recently supported a community project in Aberdeen, Scotland to help transform a busy footbridge in Kittybrewster into an art installation using our PlastiRoute™ and DecoMark™ materials.
The purpose of this project was to bring confidence and create a better sense of identity and well-being to residents and visitors to the area. The completed installation is entitled 'Lots of Different Fish Swim Here' and visitors will see why.
The project, spearheaded by the Community Council was supported by the Aberdeen City Council and the Fairer Aberdeen Support Fund. Final year students at the local Gray’s School of Art were given the task of developing artistic improvement using suggested ideas from the local community.
Dr. Geoff Goolnik, Community Council Chair says about the project: “Our desire has been to transform a nondescript, much-tagged connection into a vibrant gateway that hopefully uplifts community feelings and spirits. The installation allows as many people as possible passing through, young and old, from diverse backgrounds to all feel encompassed and charmed within the many colourful environmentally themed aspects alongside references to local landmarks”.
We were happy to be able to contribute to the horizontal part of this project with both our materials and technical expertise. A water effect was created on the pavement using PlastiRoute™ Rollplast and finished with preformed, DecoMark™ fish that complimented the theme of the rest of the colouful installation.
The finished result goes to show that with a combination of our DecoMark™ and PlastiRoute™ product lines, you can provide any paths or plaza with a decorative make-over. Whether you are looking for markings that match the surroundings or stand out to create attention, these materials let you create colourful surfaces, shapes, and symbols exactly to your liking.
